Bevel Bit with Mullen Roller Centre – Universal / Wilkie Side Pieces

The Bevel Bit, also known as a Universal or Wilkie, is designed to provide additional control and encourage clearer communication between horse and rider. Its distinctive side pieces offer a mild leverage action, applying pressure to the poll and encouraging the horse to respond to rein aids. The amount of leverage and pressure depends on the rein attachment used, the bit's fit and the rider's hands.

Featuring a Mullen roller centre, this bit combines the action of the Bevel side pieces with a curved, gently contoured mouthpiece designed to provide a comfortable fit across the horse's tongue. The smooth roller centre can encourage tongue movement and provide an interesting contact point for horses that enjoy interacting with their bit.

Key Benefits:

  • Improved Control: The Bevel side pieces provide additional leverage for clearer rein aids and improved responsiveness.

  • Poll Pressure: The leverage action can encourage the horse to lower its head and respond to rein pressure, depending on the rein configuration.

  • Mullen Mouthpiece: The curved, generally solid mouthpiece offers a more even contact across the tongue than a jointed bit, without the central nutcracker action of a single-jointed mouthpiece.

  • Roller Centre: Provides a smooth, movable element that some horses may find engaging and can encourage tongue activity.

  • Versatile Design: Suitable for riders seeking a combination of direct rein communication and additional leverage, when correctly fitted and used with appropriate rein attachments.

The Bevel Bit with Mullen Roller Centre can be an option for horses that benefit from a consistent mouthpiece and additional control. As with any bit, suitability depends on the individual horse's mouth conformation, training, sensitivity and response. Correct fitting and educated use are essential for the horse's comfort and welfare.
