PDS Saddles

PDS, or Professional Dressage Solutions, creates dressage saddles developed in collaboration with Carl Hester. The range offers different tree, panel and seat designs so a fitter can consider the horse’s back shape and the rider’s position together. From the established Carl Hester Collection to the fitter-focused SE Collection, PDS combines close contact with practical fitting options.

Can a PDS saddle be adjusted as my horse changes shape?
PDS saddles use the X-Change gullet system to adjust the width at the front of the tree. Many models also have flocked panels that a saddle fitter can adjust to refine contact and balance. The correct gullet plate series depends on the model, so it should be checked before any change is made.

Will a wider gullet make a PDS saddle fit a wide horse?
A wider plate changes the front width, but it does not change the overall tree or panel shape. A fitter still needs to check whether the saddle follows the horse’s back, clears the withers and spine, distributes weight evenly and stays balanced with the rider aboard.

Is there a PDS option for a high-withered horse?
The Grande Alto has a panel designed for horses with higher withers and a greater difference between wither height and back height. Its front gussets allow a fitter to adjust the flocking where additional support is needed. The complete fit must still be assessed on the individual horse.

What about a compact horse or one with a prominent shoulder?
Different PDS models address different shapes. The Carl Hester Jaguar has shorter tree points and a compact, upswept profile intended for horses that need that shape. The Brioso was developed for horses with a more traditional topline and prominent shoulders. A fitter can determine which design gives the horse room to move while keeping the saddle stable and
