Can a Cavaletti saddle be adjusted if my horse changes shape?
Yes. Cavaletti saddles have an interchangeable gullet bar with six widths, from narrow-medium through to extra-extra-wide. This makes it possible to reassess the width as your horse gains fitness, develops muscle, changes weight or moves through the seasons. The wool-flocked panels on the leather saddles can also be assessed and adjusted by a saddle fitter.

Are Cavaletti saddles suitable for wide horses?
They can be a useful option for some broader horses, with wide and extra-wide gullet choices and a channel designed to provide room around the spine. Cavaletti also offers selected warmblood tree models. A wide gullet alone does not guarantee a fit: the tree shape, panel contact, saddle length and balance must suit the individual horse.

What if my horse has a short back or prominent withers?
Seat size and horse fit need to be considered together. The rider needs enough room to sit comfortably and in balance, while the saddle must stay within the horse’s weight-bearing area. Wither and spinal clearance must also be checked with the rider on board. A fitter can help determine whether a particular Cavaletti model accommodates both of you.

Which Cavaletti saddle should I choose?
A general purpose saddle suits riders who enjoy a mix of flatwork and jumping. A VSD offers a straighter flap for riders who mainly school or hack. Dressage models support a longer leg position, while jump models accommodate a shorter stirrup and more forward leg. Monoflap models offer a closer feel between horse and rider. The best choice is the one that fits your horse and supports your own position.

Will changing the gullet fix every fit problem?
No. Changing the gullet adjusts the width at the front; it cannot correct every difference in back shape or panel fit. If a saddle tips, rocks, bridges, slips or places uneven pressure on your horse, have the whole saddle assessed before riding in it.
